Question

How long do we have to finish reading this book?????? I think we should have two weeks to finish the book and come up with the discussion questions. So maybe next book club we should share our final thoughts about the book as a group. I think that each book club meeting we should share our thoughts about the finished book and choose a new book. What do you guys think of that idea?????? Also what social thing will we discuss next meeting. Are we rotating whose house the meeting is going to be at? I think anyone who wants to host the meeting should get a chance to. Lastly who are all the people in the book group and do they all know about the blog????????

First Group Book Chosen

Sophia, Peninah and Rhianna met this evening. They added to the potential book list posted by Charlotte via the "comments" and then, after some discussion chose the following book for the group:

Falling In,

by Frances O'Roark Dowell

Here's the blurb from the front flap of the jacket:

B z z z z z z z
The buzzing sound?
Do you hear that?
There it is again.
B z z z z z z z
No? Well, I really shouldn't have asked. Most people can't hear it, anyway. But, if you could, you'd think it sounds like you're teetering on the edge of the universe. That's what Isabelle Bean thinks...and she's not that far from the truth.
B z z z z z z z
You really don't hear that?
Well, it's actually not that great to have a buzzing in your ear. It's distracting for one thing. And when Isabelle starts listening to the buzz instead of, say, her boring teacher, strange things happen. She gets sent to the principal's office (that's not so strange), but then while awaiting her punishment, she tumbles into an adventure — into another world that's a little bit different, a little bit Hansel & Gretel-y, a little bit like a fairy tale, which would be great, but...did I mention that Isabelle is an unusual dresser? When she shows up in fairy-tale land wearing her favorite high, pointy boots, the fairy-tale people start thinking that Isabelle is a witch — and not just any witch, but the witch!

We decided that for the sake of moving forward, the book decisions get to be made by whomever is at the meeting. We'll have plenty of time for everybody to advocate for their choices at future meetings.

There was much fun had outside before we sat down and showed the girls how to log in to Blogger and make comments and new posts. Then some indoor game playing before the book decision was made. What was overall a wonderful evening, did have its moment of drama when an outdoor accident resulted in an injury. Hey! How many people can say that their book group is a contact sport?! But all's well that ends well and the evening ended with big smiles and excitement about reading Falling In.

We're scheduled to meet again on Saturday, May 8th, but there is some desire to do this on late Sunday afternoon rather than Saturday evening. So, we'll see how everybody feels about Sunday, May 9th at 5pm.

Meanwhile, the girls find out how they get along with the book and whether they want to share any of their reading experiences here.

Read along now...
